For not realizing, or refusing to see, the absolute horror of our treatment of animals in the farming industry. I feel stupid for not knowing (or maybe forgetting?) that animals only produce milk after they have given birth. I watched Earthlings a few days ago after a friend mentioned it. Dominion was even harder. I continually cried through both of them, covering my eyes or ears when I couldn’t stand witnessing the suffering. Screaming out loud for the humans torturing these animals to be hurt themselves.
I too wish all humans would watch these films. I am new to veganism because of these films. I’m grateful that I remember these horrors every time I see an ad for milk or pass by the meat section at the grocery store.
I’m having a hard time forgiving myself for being a part of this suffering, for supporting this terrorist behavior, up until now. I ask my higher power for forgiveness for my past transgressions, for the scales have dropped from my eyes and I now see.
Apologies for just dumping on this forum, but I had to let it out.
I feel ashamed…

Me too. I was a vegetarian before and I thought I was doing enough by making ‘better choices’. I was still participating in the torture and murder of animals while paying people to exploit them. I even knew some of it!
I watched Dominiom too last month and went through intense guilt and shame for several weeks after I realized my whole worldview was skewed.
But at the end of the day, breaking away from that ignorance that is ingrained in our culture takes courage, and at least from now on we can make a difference. Just by making delicious food, being hospitable and taking care of our health we can be walking, talking billboards for veganism. Not everyone can watch Dominion, but there are many eye-opening books for those people.
